Kilifi is the main town in Kilifi District. It is past Mombasa on your way to Malindi and is therefore sandwiched by these two districts. It is where you find the Kilifi creek. From Mombasa International Airport , it is about 58 kilometres away. In Kilifi you will find the Mnarani Ruins which houses famous tombs and mosques from the 14 th century. The people around Kilifi are mostly the Giriama people and their villages and way of life attract many visitors to this area. Visitors usually come to the Ngomongo villages for the open air museum and to observe their folk customs, family activities and dances.
Among the finest Kenyan beaches, the Bofa Beach is also found here and you can easily view the coral reef from here. Kilifi boasts of having a beach on both sides and hotels in this area offer tailor made sailing trips. Initially, Kilifi was only accessed using the ferry but later on a bridge was constructed and it is now easier for everyone.
