About one hour north of Nairobi the lake is good for bird life and the lake is home to many hippos. Numerous birds are likely to be seen on a visit. The second largest lake in Kenya and has no outlet which is a fairly unique feature for a lake.
Boat trips are available and provide a chance to see hippos and the bird life on the lake. There are a number of lodges and cheaper places to stay along the lakeshore. At the end of the lake is Hell's Gate National Park.
